Miranda is the first Portuguese law firm to join IBM’s World Community Grid (WCG) and build a team in which its members, clients and friends participate. WCG reflects Miranda's policy of Social Responsibility, and is just one of our initiatives as a part of our Social Responsibility agenda.  For more information on CSR click here.

WCG is a creation of IBM and is considered to be the world’s largest technology of its kind used towards humanitarian ends. WCG utilizes the capacity of idle computers to quickly process medical research data in order to solve some of today's greatest problems for humanity such as Muscular Dystrophy and HIV. Pieces of information are broken down and sent to the individual computers linked to the project, which allows research to be computed simultaneously and significantly accelerates progress on these issues. This technology is only available to public and non-profit organisations which lack the resources to afford the multiple-supercomputer-infrastructure required for complicated humanitarian research.

Consistent with our commitment to the environment, we do not wish to waste the energy our computers are using while they are inactive.  In the search for an effective use of energy resources we have found WCG to be the answer to this dilemma.

WCG supports the following projects:

Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy
Fiocruz Genome Comparison
Human Proteome Folding – Phase II
