VdA and Miranda join forces on pro bono legal services
Miranda and Vieira de Almeida & Associados (“VdA”) are pleased to announce the signing of an agreement for the provision of pro bono legal services.
In addition to the Agreement, the law firms jointly signed a Protocol with the Portuguese Platform of Non-Governmental Organisations for Development (“Portuguese NGO Platform”) and with the Confederation of National Institutions for Solidarity for the provision of such legal services.
According to VdA’s Vasco Vieira de Almeida, “This project is not an act of charity; it is a duty of citizenship. Equal economical, political and social rights are an essential part of our Democracy and only an active participation in the community can make them a reality. Lawyers are committed towards this participation as they have an obligation to promote the rule of law and advocate community rights and guarantees. This is what we aim to do”.
“The Protocol signed between Miranda and VdA creates a voluntary partnership mirroring the commitment shared by our firms on the responsibility of our lawyers towards the community”, said Miranda Chairman. “All lawyers are dedicated to promoting access to the courts and to the proper administration of justice. Although each law firm will continue to carry out their own social responsibility programmes, with this protocol our firms undertake to jointly provide non-paid legal services to those who are currently deprived of them”, concluded Agostinho Pereira de Miranda.
The Protocol signed between the firms provides for pro bono legal services in addition to training sessions for institutions associated with CNIS and with the Portuguese NGO Platform. This legal assistance will also benefit the launching of business projects by young entrepreneurs lacking the financial resources to retain adequate legal services. All of the information on the joint projects of the firms will be posted on a website created solely for this purpose.
