2008/10/31 - Miranda and Lisbon University Law School sign cooperation protocol

Miranda and the Lisbon University Law School (“FDL”), through its Institute for Legal Cooperation (“ILC”), have signed a cooperation protocol aimed at further developing the cooperation which is currently carried out by the FDL in connection with universities from Portuguese-speaking African countries, Timor-Leste, Goa and the United States.

Under the protocol, with an initial duration of 2 years, Miranda will provide support to the publication of studies on the legal system of Portuguese-speaking African countries plus Timor-Leste. Additionally, Miranda will provide internships at its Lisbon office and at its overseas offices. These internships will be offered to students from the FDL, including PhD candidates, and from other law schools with which the FDL cooperates. Miranda lawyers will also be available to lecture post-graduate FDL courses in Energy Law, Finance Law, Securities, Labour Law, Arbitration and Corporate Governance, both in Portugal and abroad.

According to Prof. Dário Moura Vicente, Head of the ILC, "The ILC has been promoting cooperation programmes with Portuguese-speaking African countries for a number of years, and more recently with Timor-Leste and Goa. Guided by a duty of solidarity, the ILC has taken a strong commitment to participate in the development of legal research and preparation of law professors in those countries”. The Head of the ILC further comments: “We have built a solid working relationship with Miranda based on shared values. It is a great pleasure to once again rely on Miranda’s support”.

Establishing partnerships with the most prestigious law schools of the countries where we carry out our work is one of our goals. Therefore, it is an honour to support this Institute whose remarkable work has been a contributing factor to the research and education of law in Portuguese-speaking countries”, said Agostinho Pereira de Miranda, Miranda Chairman.
