2008/11/10 - Miranda expands to Brazil

Miranda is pleased to announce its arrival in Brazil. In association with the Brazilian law firm Bichara, Barata, Costa & Rocha Advogados (“BBC&R”), Miranda will be advising clients in investment projects in the country, especially in the oil and gas sector. With this initiative, Miranda will join the core of law firms who participate in the exponential development of the oil and gas sector in Brazil.

According to Diogo Xavier da Cunha, Miranda Partner, “Brazil is a very interesting country for a law firm with our profile, not only due to its potential in the petroleum sector – where we possess vast experience – but also because there are a number of Brazilian companies going international with their business to countries covered by the Miranda Alliance in Africa. At BBC&R we identified the values and principles that have long sustained our practice and, therefore, we considered this to be the most appropriate moment to extend our reach to the only Portuguese-speaking country not yet covered by the Miranda Alliance”. Miranda Partner further states, “This move is another response to our client needs and the underlying premise that has inspired our business: to be present where our clients require our services and where we comprise the capacity to contribute to their success”.

Founded in 1993, BBC&R has main offices in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and affiliated offices in Brasilia, Vitoria and Volta Redonda. BBC&R is also a member of a network of offices in Brazil with a presence in Salvador, Curitiba, Recife and Porto Alegre.

Luiz Gustavo Bichara, BBC&R Managing Partner, comments: “It is a great honour to have joinied the Miranda Alliance. This association of law firms is a prime example of how distance and different jurisdictions are not viewed as a limitation but rather as an opportunity”. BBC&R Managing Partner further adds, “The know-how we possess in the Brazilian market, together with Miranda’s vast experience and reputation in the oil and gas sector, will be the strength of the unparalleled service sought by the key companies in the sector”.

Miranda Alliance is an international association of law firms and offices with presence in all Portuguese-speaking countries (Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and now Brazil), plus Equatorial Guinea, Macau (China) and Houston (USA).
