Miranda Strengthens International Practice
Firm Hires Three Foreign Consultants
Miranda has announced the hiring of three new consultants: Matthieu Le Roux (French), André Rossetto (Brazilian), and David Arellano (Venezuelan).
According to Miranda Managing Partner Rui Amendoeira: “Miranda has ambitious plans for international expansion. We are looking at both increasing foreign activity in countries where we are already present and opening offices in new countries. In order to achieve our goals, we have to hire top professionals with the right expertise and experience, regardless of their nationality. When necessary, we do not think twice about hiring people abroad and having them come to Portugal, which was the case with these new hires”. Miranda Managing Partner goes on to say that: “The ability to join different nationalities, cultures and areas of expertise around one common project has been a feature of Miranda since its inception, and it will always be something that sets us apart from other Portuguese firms”.
Matthieu Le Roux is French and will join the team coordinating Miranda’s expansion into French-speaking African countries. He worked in the Republic of Chad for four years and in Gabon for another four. Matthieu is a graduate of Rennes University, where he also completed post-graduate studies in Tax and Trade Law. He also holds an LL.M from Exeter University in the UK. Matthieu began his career in 1999 with a traineeship at the Paris office of English firm Norton Rose. In 2000, he moved to Landwell & Partners, also in Paris, where he worked as a Tax Consultant, and a year later joined PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Tax & Legal Services Department in the Republic of Chad (N’Djamena). In July 2005, he moved to Libreville, Gabon, to become Manager of Deloitte & Touche’s Tax & Legal Services Department. In 2007, he returned to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Tax & Legal Services Department to open their Port Gentil office in Gabon, where his practice was mainly focused on the oil industry.
André Rossetto, a natural of Brazil, will be reinforcing the Brazilian Law Practice Group. He joins Miranda after almost 3 years with Tauil, Chequer & Mello, a Brazilian law firm with an association with US law firm Mayer Brown. His career began in 1998 with Pinheiro Neto Advogados, one of the largest law firms in Brazil. During this period, he was a “Visiting Lawyer” with law firm Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados, in Madrid. In 2004, he joined Endesa Group where he was the in-house attorney responsible for corporate and financial operations, and two years later accepted an invitation to move to IRB-Brasil Resseguros S.A where he worked until July 2007 as legal adviser to the CEO. He is a graduate of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, holds an LL.M in Corporate Law from the Ibmec Business School of Rio de Janeiro, and also has a degree in Banking and Securities Market Law from the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados, Madrid (2003).
David Arellano, from Venezuela, is a graduate of Andrés Bello Catholic University, in Caracas, and holds an LL.M in International Commercial Law from the Portuguese Catholic University Law School (Lisbon Campus). His professional career began in his home country as a trainee with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and later as a trainee with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Venezuela and with Banco Provincial BBVA. Before moving to Portugal, he was an associate with Rodríguez & Associados. Since arriving in Portugal, he has had the chance to work with the law firm Raposo Bernardo & Associados and with TLCB Advogados. At Miranda he will focus his activity mainly in the Equatorial Guinea practice.
With the joining of Matthieu Le Roux, André Rossetto and David Arellano to the Lisbon office, Miranda Alliance is now comprised of professionals of 15 different nationalities.
