Paulo Pimenta (born 1965), Partner. Graduate of the Autónoma University Law School (1989). Admitted in Portugal (1991) and Mozambique (1997).


Following his graduation, Paulo worked at Arthur Andersen & Co, (Lisbon), where he focused mainly on tax matters. He left Arthur Andersen to become a partner at Portuguese law firm Coelho Ribeiro & Associados with responsibility for its Mozambican branch. In 2000, he set up his own practice having acquired Coelho Ribeiro’s Mozambique practice. Subsequently, Paulo rejoined Andersen, as a Director in charge of the Mozambique and Angola tax department. Thereafter, he returned to private practice and founded Paulo Pimenta & Associados. In 2005, he merged his firm with the Mozambican branch of the Portuguese law firm Miranda Correia Amendoeira & Associados to create Pimenta, Dionísio & Associados, which is the Mozambican member of the Miranda Alliance. 


Paulo provides legal advice to a number of international companies doing business in Mozambique. Paulo’s practice is predominantly of a tax and corporate nature and he is regularly involved in a wide range of corporate transactions, such as mergers & acquisitions, contract and company law, employment issues and, in general, foreign investment operations. He also has significant expertise in the aviation and shipping industries. More recently, Paulo has been increasingly involved in banking and finance matters and acts for several international banks and financial institutions doing business in Mozambique.


Paulo has written several articles for Mozambican and international publications on tax matters and has also been a lecturer in several conferences. He also teaches post-graduation courses in tax law at the State University Law School (Eduardo Mondlane University).


Paulo chairs the General Assembly of the Mozambique-Brazil Chamber of Commerce.


Paulo has been consistently ranked by Chambers & Partners in Mozambique as a “Band 1 Lawyer” from 2007 to 2011.


Paulo is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
