Alberto Galhardo Simões (born 1966), Partner. Graduate of the Lisbon Law School of the Portuguese Catholic University (1990). Admitted in 1992. Joined the Firm in 2003.

He worked 3 years at Avillez Pereira & Associados and 3 years at Luiz Gomes & Associados, focusing his practice mainly in corporate and contract law and in between undertook an L.L.M at King’s College London (University of London), in the area of International Business Law.

In 1998 he joined the legal department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington D.C.. During the 5 years spent at the IDB, he was involved in the structuring of several infrastructure projects funded by the IDB in the areas of transportation, sanitation and energy in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile and Guatemala. He was also involved in the setting-up of venture capital funds in Brazil and securitization operations.

Alberto coordinates Miranda’s Projects Group. His national and international experience in projects includes the representation of multilateral organisations, construction companies and funders during the several stages of a project, including the tender process, preparation and negotiation of the contractual documentation until financial closing and legal assistance during construction and operation. His recent project activity includes advising funders and sponsors in projects in Portugal, as well as in Portuguese speaking African countries, notably Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe. His main areas of activity are corporate law, commercial transactions, public-private partnerships and project finance.

Alberto speaks regularly at international seminars and conferences and has also written numerous articles on Public-Private Partnerships. He was also one of the five Portuguese lawyers recognised as specialist in Project Finance on the “European Legal Experts” publication.

He was ranked as an Expert in Project Finance / Energy in the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions of the European Legal Experts Guide.
