Mafalda Oliveira Monteiro (born 1969), Partner. Graduate of the Lisbon Law School of the Portuguese Catholic University (1992). Admitted in 1994. Joined the Firm in 2004.


Mafalda started her practice as a trainee at Henrique Abecasis, Andresen Guimarães & Associados, where she continued as an associate until 1995. Between 1996 and 2000 Mafalda worked as a solo practitioner, and had the opportunity to be involved in a variety of issues in the areas of corporate law, banking and finance, private international law, intellectual property and civil and commercial litigation. In 2000, Mafalda joined Abreu, Cardigos & Associados as a senior associate, specialising in banking and financial services, capital markets, derivatives, corporate law, mergers & acquisitions and commercial litigation.


From 1995 to 2003, Mafalda taught Private International Law, Commercial Law and Introduction to Legal Studies at the Lisbon International University.


She is the author of several books and studies on corporate and commercial law, including “The Factoring Contract in Portugal” and “Private Industrial Property Rights and EU Competition Law”.


Mafalda has a Master degree in Corporate Law from the Lisbon Law School of the Portuguese Catholic University (1998), which was concluded with a thesis on "Future Contracts on the Portuguese Legal System".  


In the Firm, Mafalda has been involved in oil and gas, mining, banking and financial services, capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, derivatives and commercial and company law in general.


Mafalda is recognised as a specialist in financial law by the Portuguese Bar Association.


Mafalda was ranked as an Expert in Banking and Finance in the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions of the European Legal Experts Guide.


Mafalda is fluent in English.
