Nuno Antunes (born 1963), Of Counsel. Graduate of the Lisbon University Law School (1995). Joined the Firm in 2006.


Nuno attended the curricular program of the Master degree in Juridical-Political Sciences by the Lisbon University Law School (1996). He also obtained an MA in International Boundaries (1998) and a Ph.D. with a thesis on maritime boundary delimitation (2002) by the University of Durham (United Kingdom).


Before joining the Firm, Nuno worked as a legal adviser for government bodies and public entities. His focus was chiefly Public International Law, in particular Treaty Law and Law of the Sea. He was Legal Coordinator of the Portuguese Task Group for the Extension of the Continental Shelf and was a member of Portuguese delegations to various international meetings. Abroad, he worked in Timor-Leste (East Timor) as legal adviser to the Prime Minister for the petroleum sector. He was the legal adviser in the Timor Sea maritime boundaries and petroleum resources negotiations, and participated in the drafting of legislation and regulations for the petroleum sector.


Since joining the Firm, Nuno has focused his legal practice primarily on oil & gas and mineral resources, covering a broad range of aspects in addition to regulatory issues. He has also worked in taxation law, administrative law, international law, foreign investment, contract law, environmental law and real estate matters. His practice includes legal advice mainly to multinational companies, across several jurisdictions, including Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste. Nuno also coordinated the setting up of the Firm’s office in Timor-Leste.


Nuno has lectured Public International Law at university level and has been a guest speaker at several conferences on international law and natural resources. He published widely, particularly on Public International Law matters, in Portugal and abroad.


Nuno is fluent in English.
