Rui Amendoeira (born 1968), founding partner and the current Managing Partner. Graduate of the Lisbon University Law School (1991). Admitted in 1993.


Rui attended a post-graduation in International Transactional Law from the Lisbon University Law School (1992).


Since his graduation in 1991 Rui’s practice is intertwined with the oil and gas industry. A great number of the largest international oil companies (including Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP, ENI, Total, only to name a few) have called on Rui’s expertise in some of the most challenging projects and transactions taking place in  Portuguese-speaking African regions. The matters on which Rui has advised spans over virtually the full spectrum of oil and gas activities, including acquisition of licenses from host governments, negotiation of production sharing contracts and risk service contracts with NOC’s, negotiation of joint operating agreements and joint venture agreements among IOC’s, acreage farm-in and farm-outs, unitisation and joint development agreements, among others. In recent years, Rui has been busy advising on a number of LNG and other gas development projects, some of which are among the most technically and commercially challenging developed in Africa. As part of its commitment to the oil and gas industry, Rui is actively involved in various international industry organisations, associations and forums, which allows him to keep pace with the most recent legal, technical and commercial developments and trends. He his also a regular speaker at industry conferences and seminars, and an active contributor to several industry publications.


In parallel to its client work, Rui has been early engaged in management and business development responsibilities. He was actively involved in most of the Firm’s expansion initiatives, particularly in the international footprint. In 2006 Rui’s management responsibilities took a broader dimension as he was appointed the Firm’s Managing Partner.


Rui was a director of the Portuguese Association of Law Firms (Associação das Sociedades de Advogados de Portugal – ASAP – www.asap.pt).


He was ranked as an Expert in Corporate and M&A in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 editions of the European Legal Experts Guide.


Rui is totally fluent in English, is proficient in Spanish and is able to converse in French.
