New Visa Law Enacted

Law No. 13/19, of 23 May 2019, approving a new regime on the entry, exit, stay and residence of foreign citizens in Angola, has just been published in the Official Gazette and shall come into force on 23 July 2019.

The new regime repeals the former legal statute (Law No. 2/07, of 31 August 2007), introducing significant changes to the Angolan migration legal landscape. Amongst other new rules, it is noteworthy:

(i) The extension of the period of stay under a short-term visa, which is of 10 days, renewable for 10 additional days;

(ii) The elimination of the ordinary visa type and its replacement by the tourist visa, which is issued for reasons of business prospecting, family visits, participation in scientific and technological activities, recreation, sports or culture, allows multiple entries and a stay of up to 30 days, extendable twice for 30-day periods; and

(iii) The obligation to file an investor visa application exclusively in Angola through the Migration Services.
