VAT Code enters into force in STP

The Value Added Tax Code (VAT Code), which the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe initially approved in 2019 (Law No. 13/2019, of 6 November), with subsequent amendments, has entered into force today, pursuant to Law No. 02/2023, of 31 May.

The Value Added Tax (VAT) will change the existing legislative paradigm of a Consumption Tax, whose regime is repealed, and will entail the entry into force of other tax statutes, notably of the new Stamp Duty Code. With a standard rate of 15%, the VAT Code contemplates special regimes with rates of 7.5%, 7% and 2%.
