COVID 19: Newly Updated Public Calamity Measures

New public calamity measures were enacted by Presidential Decree No. 77/21, of 26 March 2021. This legal statute amends and updates the rules established by Presidential Decree No. 62/21, of 11 March 2021, on the prevention and control of SARS-COV-2 virus and COVID-19 and the functioning of public and private services, social equipment and economic activities during the period of public calamity.

The measures were readjusted due to the restart of the activities in pre-school education and the mandatory quarantine regime. By way of example, employees with children under 5 years old are no longer subject to special protection and, consequently, may resume work at their workplace. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health may define a special quarantine regime or determine its exemption in case of travel for professional and business reasons, whenever the type of activity so justifies it due to urgency or relevant public interest reasons.
