The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis, “ANPG”), the National Concessionaire for the Angolan petroleum sector, announced last week, on 28 May 2020, that in connection with the 2020 bidding round, the Data Package concerning Blocks CON1, CON5 and CON6 (onshore Lower Congo Basin) and Blocks KON5, KON6, KON8, KON9, KON17 and KON20 (onshore Cuanza Basin) is already available.

This announcement follows the General Strategy for the Awarding of Petroleum Concessions for the 2019-2025 period (Presidential Decree No. 52/19, of 18 February 2019), according to which in 2020 the aforesaid blocks would be put out for tender. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, ANPG also informed that the exact date of the tender may be adjusted. This notwithstanding, the revitalization of exploration activities in the Country remains a key goal.
